The Phoenix Journal is your backstage pass to real campus life — an honest, funny, student-powered journal where YOU publish what matters.

Editorial Policy

The articles published in Phoenix Marine, the biannual publication of The Phoenix Journal, are student-generated, student-written, and student-edited. The team takes responsibility for their accuracy. The officers and our club advisor take responsibility for the content of the magazine.

Mission Statement

As the students’ voice, The Phoenix Journal represents the opinions, ideas, and thoughts of the student body. We do not shy away from sensitive or controversial issues, and we are committed to covering every aspect of KIS and its community

Our Aims

We aim to create a publication built on originality, curiosity, and genuine passion—not predictable or formulaic writing. Members are encouraged to explore topics they truly care about, whether that’s cultural commentary, social issues, or even game-theory breakdowns of Solo Showdown.

We strive to help every writer develop engaging, standout prose that captures attention and showcases a unique voice.

We emphasize critical thinking, teaching members how to analyze information, recognize bias, and navigate a world full of misinformation. It isn’t a cliché—it’s a skill we intentionally cultivate.

We are committed to a welcoming, lively, and comfortable community, where members enjoy creating and collaborating without judgment.

And while our work can strengthen college applications by demonstrating real writing ability and leadership, we encourage joining for the right reasons: curiosity, creativity, and the desire to produce meaningful work.

Quote of the week

"People ask me what I do in the winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring."
